Psychotherapy for Teenagers and Adults
Psychotherapy, or counselling therapy, is a way of helping people with a wide range of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy helps eliminate or control symptoms so a person can live better and increase personal well-being and emotional healing.
Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in dealing with daily life; reducing the effect of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental ailments, like depression, stress or anxiety. At Cambio Terapia Cognitive we use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy to help our patients. These methods have a high success rate and lead to quick results.
Initial sessions (the first 3 to 5) have the goal of identifying the main conflicts in your life and the goals of the therapy. From there, the psychologist will be better prepared to propose a treatment plan. Then the client can decide whether to initiate treatment or not, depending on how the relationship with the therapist evolved, availability and need to improve.
With therapy, the patient becomes aware of internal conflicts with the intent to understand them and in this way, solve them. The therapeutic process is a form of personal change in which the patient seeks a better quality of life and more personal freedom to be. At Cambio Terapia Cognitiva we use two different treatment methods chosen because of their effectiveness, speediness and long lasting results:
- Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-behavioural therapy or CBT is a highly effective treatment method that helps alleviate and eliminate mental health symptoms and mental disorders. CBT is a form of psychotherapy in which the patient talks about his or her issues and the therapist aims to modify negative behaviours and thought processes to enable the patient to enact personal change. Treatment usually lasts between 10 and 20 fifty minutes sessions. Sessions may be scheduled weekly in the beginning but as the treatment progresses these can be moved to twice or even once a month.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a therapy model that focuses on solving problems in a timely, efficient and as painless as possible manner. The goal is to face the problem as determined by the client and find a solution in the here and now. It is often a good option for patients who want to make a decision soon, need to strengthen before an important change in their lives or need to improve it, manage depression, stress or anxiety.
Which treatment method is the best?
During psychotherapy the psychologist decides with you which method to follow. In some cases, it is a hybrid of both methodologies depending on the specific problems being discussed, but always focused on achieving your treatment goals.
