How to know whith type of therapy I need?

We will decide together. After you reach out, we will set up an initial consultation with the psychologist. During that session, he will try to understand your situation and will want to know more about what you are looking to accomplish. With this information, it is possible to detemine the treatment that best works for your needs and if online counselling is a good fit for you. You may also learn if you wish to work with the psychologist, it is very important that you feel comfortable and that you can trust the therapist.

What happens during the first session?

In the first session, the psychologist will want to have a conversation with you about the nature of what is happening to you, exactly as you perceive it. When we go through difficult times, it is easy to get caught in unhealthy thinking and behaviour patterns, so the therapist will make note of signs of these behaviours and gently point them out, so that you can become aware of them. The therapist will ask questions about your personal and family history, this is important to have a better notion of who you are.

At the end of the conversation, you and the psychologist will decide the next steps. You will get initial observations from the therapist and together book the following sessions. We know that real change takes time, so you will probably be asked to see the psychologist again in 1 to 3 weeks time after the first session.

I don't know if therapy will work for me, should I still book an appointment?

Of course! It is impossible to know if something will work until we give it a try. This is why we recommend that if you feel interest for psychological therapy, that you come and see how it works, at least for one session. People who is new to therapy often have mistaken preconceived notions of how it works. For example, manu of our patients are surprised during the first sessions with the fact that the therapist is someone attentive, listens to whtat you have to say and really care about what is happening to you. The therapist is not someone who sits and listens without emotions. We know that therapy works best when you feel listened to, respected and accepted for who you are.

What if I don't feel comfortable with the psychologist?

It is perfectly normal. If you feel that there is not a good fit between the therapist and you, just let the psychologist know and he can recommend you to another specialist that can be of help.

Is everything confidential?

Yes for the most part. Psychologists and professional therapists are obliged to keep all of your personal and health information confidential. All of our electronic devices are encrypted, as are the client management and video therapy systems we use.

However, there are 4 situations in which Mexican law mandates we should break confidentiality. These situations are rare and they are as follows:

  1. those in which the therapist is behaving according to circumstances established in the law;
  2. those in which minors and their parents, legal representatives, school or tribunal require it and in which the clear and verifiable intent is to provide them help;
  3. those in which the psychologist stands legally accused, professional secret can be broken only within the strict limits necessary for his/her defense;
  4. those in which is done to prevent a crime and to prevent moral and material damages that could occur from them;
  5. those in which the client gives his/her written consent; so that results are known to whom he/she authorizes.

Outisde of these specific situations, we will not reveal any information without your written consent.

What is the cancellation policy?

We use a prepayment structure to sessions. At the beginning of the month, you pay for the sessions being scheduled in said period. In those cases when you need to cancel, appointments can be cancelled up to 24 hours before they start. Otherwise, the session will be counted as having ocurred and will be taken off the prepaid sessions. Even though we make every effort possible to remind you of your appointments, it is your responsability to let the therapist know if you will be missing a session.
